Is it OK to experiment with the order of pranayamas, asanas and meditation?

Question: Is it OK to experiment with the order of pranayamas, asanas and meditation? Is it Ok to do some additional practices if find some extra time?

Answer:

Experiment? Yes. Of course you can experiment. But don’t wait to have the best result out of such experiments. In yoga practice all experiments had already been done hundreds of years ago. The product we have now is that of many centuries of refinement.

The order in which the practice is given to you and the techniques in which you were instructed are chosen to give you the best result in a compact time frame. If you have extra time, you can increase the time of energy-breathing.

If you want to add another breathing exercise to your daily routine make sure you are adding it not for one day or two… it should become a part of your daily routine. Adding to the practice is just another game of the mind. It does not help unless is is sustainable on the long term. Doing additional practices once in a while in the frame of your daily sadhana is not recommended. Experimenting in this field is just another game your mind is playing. It is just another distraction.

Outside the frame of the daily practice do additional things… but remember: it is regularity not variety that drives you forward.
